Why Writing Good Content Helps Search Engine Optimization

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

In doing SEO, writing good material is probably the most essential element to keep in mind, especially if you want your website to be found on the internet. Although your site may be technically perfect so that the search engine robots find it, you will find that it will not help if the actual content of your site is not good.

Good site content needs to be factual and have correct grammar. It is not needed for every website that is available today on the web. However, what is important is that whatever your site is about, the content actually needs to be unique and specific so that it will appeal to people. In addition, it should be even more appealing to the audience that is looking for information and/or who want to find the site.

Good website content will encourage visitors to return, and those who do return will be more likely link to your site. Aside from your site benefiting, having a plethora of inbound links will also boost your search engine status. If the links have a higher ranking than your do, it is even better.

Additionally, the content on your website must be new as well as interesting. Readers will continue to visit to your website if you update and add new information on a regular basis.

Search engine robots are programmed to recognize changes so they will visit your site more often if you make frequent updates. Because of this any additional content that you may insert will be indexed at a much higher speed in the future.

Business Opportunity Leads - Thinking About Hiring Someone For SEO - Why You Should Be Careful?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I do SEO…for myself, friends, and those who I am working with to generate business opportunity leads to our web sites! I know enough to get by but I do not consider myself a guru on the subject. In doing SEO (search engine optimization), I do a good bit of article writing. From time to time, I will find my articles have been scraped (content removed) and placed on someone elses’ web site. The people who do this should be giving me a link back but they do not…they are stealing!

I know this goes on all of the time and I really do not do anything about it. I recently had an article scraped “by” an SEO company which to me is very unethical and tells me they probably do not know their SEO. The fact is, there are a number of illegitimate SEO businesses out there that do “not” know what they are doing!

The purpose of this writing this is just really to make you aware! There are good SEO companies and some “not” so good. Over time, the more I learn and know about SEO, I am discovering that there are “many” internet businesses that are trying to sell themselves to do your SEO which in all reality, “Do Not Have A Clue”!!

When I began writing this, I planned on gearing it for more experienced network marketers. If you have been doing network marketing for awhile, you probably will be able to spot these unethical SEO companies or individuals. Following are some things you can look out for if your thinking about hiring out to do your SEO because you just might end up spending thousands and never see legitimate business opportunity leads coming to your web site!

I could go to someones’ site and start by looking at title tags and description. I could check the source code on their web site which (by the way), is right clicking with your mouse on the specific web site and then clicking on view source. The reason you might want to look at these things is because, if they are doing SEO, their web site (you would think) should be optimized for SEO! Most people though (if they know about these things) probably have the knowledge to do SEO themselves!

Let us assume you are fairly new to SEO and you are looking for a good company. You would research the company or individual like you would anything else. Check on the internet for reviews or scams. Call these companies up! If they show you keywords and keyword phrases they have already obtained for business opportunity leads and they are “crap”, hang up and leave. Look for something else!

What do I mean by “Crap”?

Some of these people will try to “snow” you by telling you they have their names at the top of the search engines or they might give you a keyword phrase they have obtained. Call them out on this and do a search on the internet for those specific keywords. You can look at the top right of that bar that is above your search results to see how much competition the keyword or phrase has!

Heck…I can get all the keywords or keyword phrases I want just by writing an article or two. Because there is no competition for them, they are probably worthless phrases in getting business opportunity leads!

A good SEO team should be able to provide plenty of results and statistics to prove out their merit!

As I began this article, I mentioned an SEO company that stole my material. I looked at their web site and they did have a good title tag. After that, it was all a joke! I even tried to leave a comment about my article and it would not work! I did find where they have hacked and slashed a good number of my articles and placed them on their site. After reviewing everything though, these guys are not going to the top of any search engines in my lifetime! They are wasting their time. Make sure that if you hire out, the SEO company (or individual) is not wasting your time as well!

Getting high quality business opportunity leads for you specific niche to your web site is what network marketing is all about. To make money on the internet…traffic is a must and the more, the better!

The Power of Search Engine Optimisation

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a part of search engine marketing (SEM) and it requires complete understanding of search engine algorithms and their workings. Today almost all webmasters are performing search engine optimization methods to improve websites, so that the visibility of the website is improved when a search is performed with a related keyword. If a website is ranking higher for specific search results, it will deliver high volumes of traffic to the website. The traffic delivered through natural search engine queries is high quality traffic and it is also known as organic traffic.

Before starting SEO services, the search algorithms used by various search engines for indexing the web pages should be well understood. Search engines generally start spidering the website once the website is registered at the search engine, for inclusion in the search results. If a website has unique content and the contents are written, keeping in mind the search engine algorithms, the web pages will probably get indexed more easily and at the same time it should be ensured that these contents are useful for the general public, so more and more visitors come to the pages again and again.

Search engine optimization not only requires changes and regular updates in valuable content, but sometimes it might also require changes in the actual website design and source coding. The most advanced search engines use crawlers for finding web pages that meet their algorithms criteria. These search engines include Google and Yahoo, however Yahoo also has paid inclusion that guarantees crawling and page indexing of the website for a fixed fee or a fixed amount per click. Yahoo has a paid inclusion program however it is still not preferred by many advertisers. Google does not have any such program so far, however Google sitemaps allows free submission of XML type feed for indexing those web pages which are not automatically indexed.

Search engine optimization is a process to divert more organic or natural traffic to a particular website; however it is more difficult and confusing. There are a number of processes required that should have been tried to increase the visibility of the website and some of the more common useful processes include excellent website design, analysis and selection of suitable, relevant keywords, well written fresh content and good meta tags. Search engines love fresh content, therefore you should ensure that you keep the content updated by adding to it regularly, so that search engines spider your site more regularly. There are various guidelines provided by a number of search engines about what to do and what not to do and you should follow these guidelines to stand a chance against all the competition on the internet. Robots.txt files are the first file crawled by search engine crawlers and after parsing it, the search engine crawler follows the instructions provided there. Internet marketing can be a tough task and SEO experts have to not only increase organic traffic, but also meet search engine expectations and keep up-to-date with the constantly changing algorithms.

Quick and Easy SEO Tips to Grab More Visitors

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

It is imperative that you create Page Titles that are descriptive as well as relevant, for it will make it simpler for search engines to determine what your site is about. This will then allow people to scan through the search results they get, and are able to quickly determine if your document contains what they are actually looking for. It is important to note that the page title is used to link your site from the results supplied by search engines.

Because of this, the title on the page has to be treated as one of the most important attributes on your site. Many people would argue that this takes top priority over all other aspects of a website.

You need to use real headings; header tag elements are an absolute must for your page headings. To be able to use any font you want, you can opt to use pictures as your heading, though search engines may not be able to recognize such. You can use the alt attribute in order to specify and alternate text for heading images, but it is far more critical to utilize real text in a heading element.

No an easy way to solve The really only good way to ensure that your site gets linked is to ensure that it contains good content. For Search Engine Optimization, among other things, incoming links are important to any website. You might discover that this implementation is the most difficult aspect of search engine optimization. But many people have found that incoming links are less important, especially where you have more specific and unique content on your site.

Are You Ready to Outsource to a Search Engine Optimization Company?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

So, you are the marketing manager of your firm, and you’ve finally decided to pull the trigger and hire the search engine optimization company that you’ve been talking to for months. The budget has been cleared, the SEO firm is ready to start, and it should be just a matter of time before you start seeing a huge uptick in business. Right?

Not so fast.

An experienced search engine optimization company will tell you that an ill-planned campaign can be a non-starter from day one. This usually happens when there is no clear understanding of what will be required of the client to make the project run smoothly.

What follows is a list of just a few of the things that your search engine optimization company will need from you in order for the company to get its job done as effectively and quickly as possible. It’s a good idea to consider these things before you sign the contract - because a stalled campaign will cost you money, even if it is just lost opportunity cost.

Access to and Control of Your Website

You may be ready to do whatever it takes to take the steps necessary for a successful SEO campaign. Your IT team, on the other hand, may have ultimate control of the website. This only makes sense - an internal IT team that controls the website knows the ins and outs and doesn’t want anyone jeopardizing the functionality of the site. However, an SEO campaign will usually require extensive changes to the site - and you don’t want to hit a brick wall when you bring recommended changes to the IT staff or ask them to give your search engine optimization company access to the testbed. Make sure that you have an understanding with them before you sign on with a firm, lest you suffer delays and internal strife.

Additionally, it is important that you can get access to either the log files of your website or to the current reporting platform. Before a search engine optimization company begins work on your site, you want to be sure that you have a baseline of current search referred traffic. Without this, you’ll have nothing to brag about later - and no way to hold your firm accountable if results do not turn out as planned.

Control of Your Website Copy

If internal politics are such that you have to consult with every department in your organization in order to get website copy changed, it’s imperative that you make sure you have this process streamlined before you bring in your search engine optimization company.

There are many reasons why several departments may be involved in the content of your website. For example, mortgage brokers, medical offices, and investment firms (to name but a few) will almost certainly need to run copy changes through the legal department before they go live on your website. If your company sells complicated software, for example, the copy may need to be run by the developers to be verified for accuracy.

No matter how your internal politics work, make sure you are on the same page with all the people who will be involved in the copy approval process before you start the project.

Awareness of Current Code Limitations

Your prospective search engine optimization company should be able to look at how your website is constructed and let you know if there are limitations that may impede your ability to implement recommendations that can help your search engine optimization efforts.

For example, there are many CMS (Content Management Systems) that will not allow changes to be made that are beneficial to search engines. While many of the new systems are “SEO friendly,” many of the older ones are not. Updating your CMS to one that allows changes to be made for maximum SEO benefit may incur additional costs. If your search engine optimization company has been around for a while, they should be able to steer you in the right direction and, indeed, help you and your IT team to switch to a more SEO friendly platform.

Change like this can sometimes be difficult - another reason why you must be committed to SEO and achieve the buy-in from your IT team before you embark on a campaign.

Time

The largest commodity that most marketing managers do not have is time. Frequently, there are innumerable campaigns running at once, and outsourcing SEO to a search engine optimization company may make you feel that it is done and off your plate. Alas, this is rarely the case. A good search engine optimization company will take the requisite time to learn as much about your business as it possibly can, but the fact remains that nobody knows your business as well as you do.

This means that you will have to be involved in the SEO process. If you can’t dedicate an hour a week to offering feedback, approving changes, and making sure that the work being done is consistent with your overall message, there will be large delays in the project.

Set aside one hour per week to make sure everything is running smoothly. If you make SEO a back-burner issue after you have hired a search engine optimization company, you will lose money in opportunity cost (and very likely in project cost, since SEO is normally billed on a monthly basis).

Conclusion

Your chosen search engine optimization company, if you have done your due diligence, is ready to help you to maximize your exposure on the Internet and help you to reach your online goals. However, it is essential that you review the required resources and relationships before you sign on the dotted line. You will save yourself a lot of headaches and see results much more quickly if you do.

Content Articles, Keywords and Web Page Design

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

You’ve probably heard all the hype about content articles and how you can use them to improve search engine ranking and get more traffic. There’s only one problem… content articles will be of no benefit to you without proper keywording and web page design. Let’s take a look at how all three areas - content articles, keywords, and design - can work together to explode your Web promotions.

Content Article Layout

When adding a content article to your website, be sure it is formatted correctly. The paragraphs should have a double return space in between so they won’t run together. If the entire content article looks like one BIG connected paragraph, the reader is likely to skip it. This makes the article very difficult to read, and your readers are probably in a hurry when they arrive at your site.

Break up the content article into multiple short sections using sub-headings. Also, use the “Heading 1″ tag for your main title. Use “Heading 2″ tags for your sub-headings. Search engines often look for these tags to determine the main theme of a website and to seek out important keywords on a web page.

** Recap: Be sure there are double returns between paragraphs and make headings stand out with bold print and with the “Heading” tags.

Formatting Your Content Article for Google Adsense, MSN Ads, or Yahoo! Ads

Content articles with contextual ads such as Google Adsense will likely not be the prettiest in design if you’re going to earn money with Google Ads. These ads usually work best formatted within the article reading - not along the sides of your web page. Don’t fret - just put the ads where they will get clicks! But be sure your content articles are still readable using the tips above.

Keywording for Content Articles

Keywording is another tricky area. Be sure to include targeted keywords throughout your content article, but not too much. You’ll want the article to make sense and stay within good grammar rules while also attracting search engine traffic for that particular keyword. Also include related keywords within the article to give your page even more relevance and clarity in the search engines.

Keywords should be chosen carefully. Be as specific as possible. General keywords are usually difficult to achieve a top position because so many other websites have them. Use specific keyword phrases in your article title and throughout your content article.

**Examples:- Use “website content writing” instead of “writing”

- Use “bathroom home decor” instead of “home decor”

- Use “insurance premium quotes” instead of “insurance”

- Use “biking with the kids” instead of “biking”

Web Page Design for Content Articles

Your content article is the “meat” of your page, but the design plays a great role in how readers will perceive your article. Avoid lots of graphics, photos, videos, etc. on a web content page unless you are using these design features to complement the article. These items can distract your readers if you’re not careful. Also, begin your content article below the logo. People generally look at logos, banners, or graphics, and will start reading below these images.

Avoid fancy stuff such as Flash animations where your reader is required to download something before they can read the article. Many will just click out and forget about you! If your website is designed in Flash, be sure you create some HTML versions of your content pages to make it easier for readers and search engines to find your articles.

Keywords in Your Design

Your main keywords for a particular content article should be sprinkled throughout your web page design. Use the keywords in the “Alt Text” of images or logos, within your linking text, and other areas of your design when possible. This enhances your chances at a good search engine position. Also, be sure to include them in your HTML Meta Tags when possible.

Content articles should be easy to read for your visitors, keyword-rich, and creative in design without distracting the reader. Keep these tips in mind while designing your content pages.
