I Thought I Had Backup!

I thought!!!!!!

“I thought…..” In 26 years or so years of repairing computers we have heard practically every story concerning lost data.

It’s amazing how many people use the expression, “I thought”. I’ve seen men cry when they realised they lost mountains of work

Every story, however, starts with those same two words, “I thought…..”

“I thought I had a good backup”

“I thought a new machine wouldn’t crash”

“I thought a RAID drive system never failed”

“The sales manager who sold the PC told me the hard drive would last for years”

Users of all experience levels fall prey to the one thing that no amount of technology can overcome - Human Nature

And not only human nature. I’m sure companies make goods to only last the Warranty and perhaps 6 months after. Some are lucky and their PCs last for years without breaking down. And when they do they cry……

Yes, we all mean to get around to backing up, but…
The hard drive is the most mechanical part in any computer and is the most likely point of a critical failure, regardless of age.

As a Computer user it’s vital that we all remember there are two types of Hard Drives:
Those that have crashed and those that are going to crash.
We also assume because the computer is new that it’s less likely to crash.
Hard drives fail, CDs scratch and Data gets corrupted.
What would you miss if your computer crashed today?
